All Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto, dealt with automobiles since the very beginning of the 20th century. Three of the brothers, specifically, Alfieri, Bindo, and Ernesto built 2-litre Grand Prix cars for Diatto, dealing with luxury and sports cars. In fact, in 1926, Diatto discontinued the production of their race cars, which encouraged the creation of the first Maserati, leading to the founding of the Maserati marque. With their 4, 6, 8, and 16 cylinders, Maserati cars were great for racing, as one of the first cars created, driven by Alfieri, won the famous Targa Florio race in 1926.
